Happy 4th of July

Have a great celebration! We are going to kayak the Clark Fork in Montana and then turning around for a week at Lake Powell. What a great country, what a great life!

HQ 1.4

One of the best things about Keith is that he always wants everyone around him to enjoy all of the fun things he enjoys. So the other day when Drew wanted to fly a kite Keith built him one. Drew thought the project was great but Keith really wanted to get him one that when he got good at flying it we could strap a board to his feet and let him have some fun on the water or snow. So Keith ordered a little trainer kite (for kiteboarding) and Drew waited for the mail lady every day for 4 days. Finally she came right before nap time on Friday. Drew slept with the kite and almost cried when he woke up to a rain storm. Luckily it cleared up after dinner and he got to fly the HQ 1.4 trainer kite. Probably only you kiteboarders out there will be able to fully appreciate his natural talent for flying kites in the video below :).

Pioneer Park

We had a great time at "This is the Place" Monument in Salt Lake with my sister April and her kids. They are a volunteer pioneer family there once a week and love it. We had fun riding the trains, petting the animals, and visiting the different restored homes in the park. Thanks April for the great day!

frosting

This cake was made to see if I could come close to frosting a cake like the one in the top picture. It's not quite the same but still a cute style I think. I used a cream cheese frosting on my cake. However, I think I am going to use a butter cream frosting on the real wedding cake because I can make it stiffer than the cream cheese. Thanks Melissa and Wilton for the helpful hints and frosting recipes. I didn't know homemade frosting was so fun or so yummy!

cupcake challenge #1

Here is my first attempt at cupcake decorating and homemade frosting. It turned out pretty well and I learned a few things. Stay tuned for more cake and cupcake fun . . .

splash park

Today we went to the splash park with our good neighbor friends. The heater was broken so we were the only ones there. It was great. The kids really liked it when all the sprays were off and they could just splash and get wet when they wanted.

It was a gray morning but the yard was so beautiful I had to take some pictures. My flowers are more amazing every day.

I have been having so much fun looking at gourmet cupcakes. I am making some for my sister Becky's wedding in August and I can't wait to try my hand at some of these delights. Thanks Becky for your confidence- this is going to be a fun new adventure!
